It's a neat trick of our imagination to bridge that gap between what we have and what we want with thoroughly believable excuses to justify our procrastination and fear of failure.
We cannot jump a chasm in two phases! An above average commitment is the requisite first seed to any future harvest. Excuse the unrelated metaphors!
All of us set and achieve goals on a daily basis. Urgency has a way of focusing our energies on the immediate crisis. Most of us on a daily basis navigate innumerable mini crises. Setting and achieving ambitious long term goals however requires a different mindset. Expedience often results in short term gratification but at the cost of long term satisfaction.
As a mind shift exercise, try expanding out your BIG audacious aspirations into a seven year vision. For most of us, seven years is beyond the horizon of our vision. We all have a limited number of seven year cycles that can encompass, study, partying, relationship building, family creation, business development, creative pursuits, travel, spirituality, sport and fitness, music, divorce and starting over, bankruptcy, family illness, wealth and investment design, and becoming comfortable in our own skin.
The above do not all fit neatly into 7 year time packages but serve to remind us that they nevertheless occupy very distinct periods in our life.
The 7 year itch, represents that phase preceding a compulsion to move on to pastures new. We associate it with relationship stagnation, but it also relates to most other aspects of life. Perhaps the 7 year itch is actually communicating a message to us - that something must change!
Imagine that the next 7 years of your life would manifest exactly as you visualised. What would you dare to dream if you knew you couldn't fail. 7 years can fly by, and yet encompass a period of utter metamorphosis - if only we had the belief to confidently just make that leap of faith and GO FOR IT!
