Problems Or Solutions

7/23/2019

50th anniversary of Apollo 11 the most famous of all space endeavours.

There's supposedly much more coding required to run your smart phone than used to get us to the moon, with 1960's technology. Almost every challenge you face daily is compounded in correlation to two attitudes. Resilience and focus on the future (solution orientation) or the past (problem orientation)

My head literally hurts when I evesdrop conversations around me that incessantly reiterate who said what, how dare they say what, how offended they are, how unfair everything is....problem, problem, problem. Been there done that, and still sometimes doing that but trying to catch myself and move toward max focus 20% problem, 80%+++ solution focus. Health, wealth, relationships, life purpose ALL have a better or worse potential trajectory.

Rarely is there not a better version potential lurking behind solution based focus. Guaranteed we didn't get to the moon without an 80%++ focus on solutions! Live large, be well!! 💪

Success - It's Not Black And White

7/22/2019

Somewhere I heard this observation: Someone you know is having the best day of their life, and someone else their worst.

I try to remember this when confronted with people exhibiting negative energy, so that my contribution to their day dials in the right energy and not compound the toxic.
This platform aims to gently inspire positive aspiration. Never to preach or suggest a philosophy at odds with anyone else's.

Nothing is black and white (vague reference to the pic!)

I'm always looking for outliers that I can emulate or at least inspire me to redefine my expectations of what's normal.

Like the 80 year old who's smashing it in crossfit. Or the rock stars still delivering in their mid 70's. The entrepreneurs building enterprises in their eighties. The teenagers showing what can be accomplished without the assistance of mother time.

Everyday we're surrounded by people who remind us of what it's like to reinvent, change the size of the box, redefine normality and those who have given up.

Like the Tour de France, everyday is a new chance to start over, conquer another mountain, win a bunch sprint. It might seem improbable but being in the game and stretching is where the magic resides.

Health, Wealth, Fitness and Life Purpose - Introducing REMY!

7/13/2019

Celebrating a new member of the household - Remy! A French sounding name for a French breed of dog - The Papillion (Butterfly ears)

Dogs require nurturing. They pee in the house and worse, for a few weeks. They drop hair, chew on your shoes and pull the threads on your best clothes. They need feeding, occasional vets visits, insurance, and of course walks, plus, plus.

Why do we bother? If that question causes you momentary pause, then you're probably not a dog person - we can still be friends but it's a small strike against you 🤣
Reason for the post. Life balance doesn't just show up. It's not an inherited gene. It requires self awareness and cultivating.

Money is cool. All things being equal I prefer traveling business class to economy. 5 star hotels are neat. My first flash car in my 50's was a buzz. But it's never been the main game.
Wealth means nothing if you live in a toxic ecosystem. Holidays are sterile without loved ones. Public esteem without health is hollow.

Life balance doesn't have to mean minimalism, but might. Conquering the world doesn't mean you have to lose out on other aspects of a fulfilled life, but it might.

We all have different drives. Some need to challenge themselves to feel alive, others crave stress free pursuits.

Most of us get too caught up in our own bubbles to reflect on WHY. Is our current journey really worth it?

This group was set up to gently prompt reflection on balancing health (mental and physical), wealth (for the choices it offers), fitness ( defining the quality of how we age) and purpose (that reason beyond survival to get out of bed)

A pet is like a microcosm of human relationships. On the surface they ( human relationships) can seen to hinder our busy lives. Easier to avoid eye contact pay our groceries plugged in to our music/podcasts. Investing in people's idiosyncrasies, listening to their nonsense, indulging their histrionics. Who can be bothered?

And yet that's what these handful of our real connections do for us. Focusing on others, I'm including our pets in this group, dilutes our tendency to be too critical in our own introspection.
Live large, smile often

A Luggage Full Of Belly FAT!!

7/4/2019

What does a few kilo's excess weight (FAT) look like?

As I prepare for a quick trip overseas I wondered how much my luggage weighed imagining the hassle of dragging it around airports lugging it in and out of car boots etc.
I guessed perhaps 20KG's. I was off a fair bit. 11.3 KG's

When I made a few changes to my nutrition habits 9 months ago I was 90.2K's (in my mind a few KG's above ideal) and subsequently dropped 15 K's it was hard to put it into context other than clothes not fitting and belt notch receding.

I shiver when I think back 4 years ago and was still in the thrall of fast food and 23 K's heavier. Twice the weight of my luggage. Not only that, all 23 K's would have been FAT. I'm pretty sure my bones, brain, organs didn't contribute to the excess weight.

Reason for the post is to inspire action. When you lose a few kilos you need to pat yourself on the back because it is significant - less about how far you are off your ideal but being able to visualise what that weight looks like as luggage or a small dog and imagining carrying that around for the next 20 years.

Live large, do what inspires you and be well!!

Will This 'Crisis' Really Matter In 5 Years?

7/1/2019

Will this crisis really matter in 5 years, 5 months, 5 weeks, 5 minutes?

If not learn to let go. Seasons come and go, it's how life works. Everyday we see stressed out, overwrought individuals escalating their risk of heart attack and driving up the cortisol of those whose presence they intersect. And to what end?

Self sabotage is the curse of the highly strung. S**t happens. Well actually it's poor context that happens, and that we make it happen (framing of what things mean). There are few bad days (bereavement, ill loved ones, serious accidents aside) for the other 99% of our lives it's we who are the problem.

Forgetting to smile, engage or care about those in our immediate vicinity triggers loneliness. Sharing your perceived personal woes with the world has little upside. Victimhood is a curse. A bad mood is deserving of self reflection.

What is the solution to this malaise? Is it a one off trigger, or the same issue having a groundhog day? Grumpiness is sad. Change beliefs, change food, change exercise, change relationships, change your consumption of news.

Be wary of the dreaded
addiction to misery in general.
