We like and wholeheartedly endorse beliefs that mirror our own, mistakenly labelling them truths. The only truth that I'm fairly glued to is that 'we exist and then we don't!'
We share these online communities to interact, entertain, curate ideas, and perhaps inhale a dose of inspiration.
It's in the nature of our species however to puff out our chests exhale our opinions on even the minutiae of life with a rancour that makes little sense. Don't get me started on the Kardashians!! I like the filter that discriminates between scepticism and cynicism.
Scepticism alludes to 'tell me more, I'm not sold on your point of view' and leaves the door open to a continuing relationship.
Cynicism however is a poison that has no empowering value. It is not evidence based, doesn't offer an alternate paradigm, it's just bad graffiti on a pristine wall and a relationship killer.
I like to hang around the hopelessly optimistic embracing their wins and commiserating their losses. The skeptics grate admittedly but their devil's advocate insight suppresses excessive delusory adventures.
The cynics I'm afraid are a passive smoke I can't afford to inhale.
