Weddings and funerals are two filters on our view of life. One is the vision of unlimited joyous possibility, the other a contemplation of how a life was lived. Rarely is a eulogy filled with anecdotes of materialistic achievements, and yet we often measure our life's value by these attainments.
We are remembered for our energy. For how we made others feel. Our achievements are incidental, and may garner respect but they are own indulgences. We set goals for how it makes us feel, not to compete with our tribe.
After our survival needs are met, the ingredient that will most impact the eulogy we write for ourselves is purpose. Purpose is the flavour that defines how we feel as sleep switches to awake To awake daily, feeling intoxicated by what the day holds in store would be magnificent.
I'm moving gradually away from the pursuit of destination goals, and more in the direction of the more tangible and impactful pursuit of daily incremental progress. Specifically, over 5 interwoven areas of life: health, fitness, wealth, relationships and purpose. A road less traveled perhaps, but infinitely more exciting.
