Steve Jobs has been deified but after ready his biography I'm doubtful I'd have wanted to be around him. I make this observation based on a couple of curious behaviour patterns I'm observing with business people ostensibly networking. My venue of choice for breakfasts often coincides with business networking mornings. There's lots of energy, swapping of business cards and hearty smiles and handshakes, followed by almost complete blanking of the person at reception taking their order.
If you are only willing to engage with those you consider peers and treat everyone else as invisible you're inauthentic plain and simple. A similar scenario, I noticed this chap at a workshop recently, pontificate about the importance of rapport, however on exiting he virtually barged his way through the door oblivious to those behind him and without it occurring to him to hold the door open.
Everyone has value, and nothing is more of a turn off than indifference to those not perceived to have value.
